SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 16, 1996--The Indus Group, Inc. (NASDAQ NM: IGRP), which recently emerged from the "quiet period" associated with its Initial Public Offering, announces that effective December 15, 1995, Dr. Alan G. Merten has joined its board of directors. Dr. Merten is the Anne and Elmer Lindseth Dean and Professor of Information Systems at the S. C. Johnson Graduate School of Management of Cornell University, where he has been since 1989. Effective July 1, 1996, Dr. Merten will become the fifth President of George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
Dr. Merten was first introduced to The Indus Group, Inc. in 1991 by its President and CEO, and Cornell alumnus, Robert W. Felton. Mr. Felton was a founder and member of the Advisory Council of the Personal Enterprise and Entrepreneur Program and last year chaired the council of that program.
Dean Merten recollected, "From my earliest encounters with INDUS, I was impressed with the energy, vision, and culture that has propelled The Indus Group so quickly from start-up into the public forum. INDUS is a textbook case of a collection of creative individuals who put a plan in place and deliver on it. They have put into motion a corporate culture that both challenges and empowers individuals to grow professionally without the bureaucracy that customarily evolves as organizations grow so quickly," Dr. Merten said.
Responding to his recent acceptance of a seat on the INDUS board of directors, Dr. Merten continued, "I am proud of my association with The Indus Group while at Cornell University and personally look forward to using my experience to help forge business practices that fit the culture and assist the new public company as it continues to grow and expand."
At a recent board of directors meeting in Philadelphia, Mr. Felton added his comments welcoming Dr. Merten to the board. "We are delighted to add an external board member with global vision and an outside perspective in how technology can be used in solving today's business challenges. To boldly move forward on our charted course to become the industry leader of enterprise management software solutions to the process industry worldwide, INDUS needs visionaries like Dr. Alan Merten to share their experience, creative energy, and integrity."
Dr. Merten is recognized as one of the most respected educators in the nation. He serves on the Board of Directors of Comshare, Inc., Tompkins County Trust Company, Common Sense Trust, Washington Campus, and National Multi-Cultural Institute's Advisory Council, as well as numerous other professional memberships and associations.
