Cats and kittens live as if they are at home at Whiskers Animal Benevolent League's no-kill, no-cage home for unwanted animals on Central Avenue, Albany.

Each year, Whiskers takes in hundreds of abandoned animals who might otherwise die of starvation, from illness, abuse, accident or neglect.

Sixty-five animals live at the two-story shelter. Another 50 to 60, usually kittens, live with families in foster care, said spokeswoman Carol Hall, who rescues animals.

More than 65 volunteers work as foster parents or as feeders and cleaners at the shelter. They take care of cats' daily needs, give medications …
